Finding an empanelled hospital near you is the most important practical step before any planned treatment. This guide explains every method to search the PMJAY hospital list — the official locator, the Ayushman App, by specialty, by city, and through the PMAM desk at any hospital you visit.

Key Rule: Treatment is only cashless at empanelled hospitals. Always verify a hospital’s empanelment status on the official locator before admission — the list changes periodically as hospitals are added, suspended, or removed.

Step 1: Visit the Official Locator

Open hospitals.pmjay.gov.in — this is the live database maintained by the National Health Authority. Bookmark it for future use.

Step 2: Apply Filters

The page shows filter dropdowns. Set these in order:

• State — Your state name
• District — Your district (or “All” for state-wide search)
• Hospital Type — Government, Private, or All
• Specialty — Cardiac, Cancer, Dialysis, Neonatal, Orthopedic, etc.
• Empanelment Status — Active (always select this — avoids viewing suspended hospitals)

Step 3: Click Search

Click “Search”. Results display in a list with hospital name, address, contact, available specialties, and an “empanelled” badge.

Step 4: Verify the Hospital

For each hospital in your results, the locator shows:

• Active Empanelment badge — safe to use
• Suspended — currently not accepting PMJAY (treatment will not be cashless)
• De-empanelled — removed from PMJAY network

Always select hospitals showing the Active badge. Save the hospital’s contact number and address.

Step 5: Confirm Before Visiting

Call the hospital directly before visiting to confirm: (a) they are still empanelled today, (b) they have a PMAM desk, and (c) the specific specialist you need is available. Empanelment can change between your search and your actual visit.

The official Ayushman App uses your phone’s GPS to find empanelled hospitals near your current location — perfect when travelling or in an unfamiliar area.

Step 1: Open the App

Open the official Ayushman Bharat app (publisher: National Health Authority). Verify location permission is enabled.

Step 2: Tap “Find Hospital”

From the dashboard, tap the Hospital Locator or Find Hospital option.

Step 3: Allow Location Access

The app requests permission to access your GPS. Tap Allow — the app uses this to sort hospitals by proximity to your current location.

Step 4: Set Filters

Select your preferred specialty, hospital type (government/private/all), and proximity radius (5 km, 10 km, 25 km, or 50 km).

Step 5: View Results on Map

Results display as both a list and a map view. Each hospital shows:

• Distance from your location
• Available specialties
• Contact number (tap to call directly)
• “Get Directions” button (opens Google Maps)
• Active empanelment badge

The app version is often more current than the web locator because it syncs with the live NHA database in real-time.

Call 14555 from any phone (toll-free). Tell the helpline staff:

• Your city or district
• The specialty you need (cardiology, cancer, dialysis, etc.)
• Whether you need government or private hospitals
• Any specific preference (24-hour emergency, super-specialty, etc.)

The helpline is staffed in 11+ Indian languages. Staff can provide names, addresses, and contact numbers of empanelled hospitals over the phone — useful when you have no smartphone, internet, or are in a rural area.

This method is also useful when you’re already at a hospital and want to verify if they’re really empanelled before admission.

Each Indian state runs its own State Health Authority (SHA) portal that maintains an updated list of empanelled hospitals within that state. State portals sometimes include hospitals that are still being added to the central NHA database — making them slightly more current for state-level lookups.

Every PMJAY-empanelled hospital must have a Pradhan Mantri Arogya Mitra (PMAM) desk — also called Ayushman Mitra desk. This is staffed by trained personnel who:

• Verify your Ayushman Card and PMJAY ID
• Confirm the hospital is currently empanelled
• Pre-authorise treatment with NHA

When visiting any hospital, look for the “PMAM Desk” or “Ayushman Mitra” signage — usually near the main reception or admissions counter. If the hospital doesn’t have a PMAM desk, they are not empanelled under PMJAY and you cannot avail cashless treatment there.

The Admission Process

3. They check the patient’s available coverage balance from the ₹5 lakh
4. Pre-authorisation request goes to NHA (usually approved within hours)
5. Once approved, you’re admitted to a ward — fully cashless
6. All treatment, medication, food, and follow-up are included

What Should Be Free

Under PMJAY, the following are fully covered with no out-of-pocket payment:

• Consultation fees with specialists
• Diagnostic tests (X-ray, MRI, CT, ultrasound, blood tests)
• Surgery and procedure costs
• Medications during hospital stay
• ICU and ward charges
• Food provided in hospital
• Pre-admission tests (up to 3 days before)
• Post-discharge follow-up (up to 15 days)

If a hospital asks you to pay for any of the above, refuse politely and call 14555 immediately — this is against PMJAY rules and the hospital can face penalty.
